    Energy

Insulation is an indispensable part of energy generation. Our specialists for insulation, fire protection, noise control and scaffolding set high standards for efficiency, quality and safety.

We know the specific requirements of the different plants and have the right service for every customer.

    Sectors:

    • Waste incineration plants
    • Bio-energy plants, geothermal and solar thermal power plants
    • District heating and process heating plants
    • Nuclear facilities
    • Conventional power plants
    • Grid operators

    Conventional power plants

Wherever heat from burning fossil fuels is turned into electrical energy, we from KAEFER are in most cases, already on site. By insulating their pipelines, turbines, ducts and boilers, our customers save valuable energy, conserve resources and protect their staff from injury.

Shutting down a power plant is a huge challenge for all involved. We address this challenge by advising our customers right from the planning stage. Together, with them, we plan the shutdown: flexibly, professionally and safely, right through to final acceptance.

Our cost-consciousness begins with the customer's tight budgets. As a special service we reduce the costs of insulation to a minimum, without losing sight of the parameters for heat loss and health and safety requirements.

    Nuclear facilities

The tasks set for us by our customers from the nuclear industry are technically and logistically highly demanding. We address these challenges with modular insulation systems that offer a maximum of safety, quality, flexibility and functionality.

Full metal insulation: Stainless steel segments, filled with highly reflective stainless steel foils
Cassette insulation: Stainless steel segments, filled with mineral or ceramic insulation
Mattress insulation: Segments of fibreglass, filled with mineral or ceramic insulation and covered with stainless steel sheeting

When nuclear facilities have to be shut down or decommissioned our qualified staff are there to assist you with logistics, removal of hazardous materials, decontamination, disassembly and metalwork. Further information about "Decommissioning nuclear facilities" can be found in our services section.

    Waste incineration plants

The operators of waste incineration plants are faced with declining calorific values and higher levels of pollutants in the waste. They are not only meant to deliver waste-free streets and clean disposal, but also to generate heat and power as cost-effectively as possible. Through insulation, we reduce heat losses and are also there for you at short notice in the event of faults and repairs, to keep the downtime at your plant to a minimum.

Bioenergy, geothermal and solar thermal energy

Renewable energies make a major contribution to protecting the Earth's atmosphere. In the use of bioenergy, geothermal and solar energy energy, efficiency plays an important role. The less heat that is lost in production and transport, the greater the benefit for the plant operator and the environment. Our technically adapted insulation ensures that as little heat as possible is lost in generation, processing and transport and in doing so optimises the efficiency of these processes.

Storage and transport of district and process heating

For the construction of new heat storage facilities we support you with tailor-made insulation in accordance with section 5b of the German Combined Heat and Power Act. This forms the basis for obtaining public-sector funding for the new building and extension of heat and cold storage facilities. We have experience of the prefabrication and installation of supports with a certificate of structural soundness. Then our highly-rained team comes into play, to install them quickly and safely on storage facilities of all sizes.

    Electricity grids

The coexistence of man and machinery in a confined space raises particularly challenges for the operators and service providers when building and operating offshore platforms. Working conditions, safety and comfort are even more important at sea than on shore.

When transmission losses from the grid connection of offshore wind farms are minimised with the use of efficient direct current technology, KAEFER is involved. In addition to the technology, the outfitting of the facility plays an important role on HVDC platforms (high-voltage direct current transmission platforms). Our functional and comfortable cabins and modern sanitary, fitness and leisure facilities are just as important for the welfare of the crew as a well-equipped and practical galley. And of course we also make sure that all the statutory regulations for noise control and fire safety are complied with.

Onshore stations at the other end of the submarine cable turn the direct current back into alternating current before it is fed into the grid. Here, noise hoods from KAEFER protect the transformers from wind and weather and, above all, ensure that the operating noise produced by the equipment does not become a nuisance for the neighbours.

Our sound experts offer a full service from the first measurements through to calculations, fabrication and on-site assembly. With our noise hoods, sound absorbers, noise control cabins and silencers we find a solution for every acoustic problem. Afterwards, a final measurement of the new noise emissions confirms the success of our work.
